Front Range Plein Air

The sounds of the hummingbirds made me pretty jealous while plein air painting this morning. I put out my hummingbird feeder a few weeks ago at home and I have only had one visit so far. I bet if I brought my feeder here it would have been swarmed.

The landscape this time of year is so dynamic to paint. The mountain in the distance is Devil’s Head. Just below that is Daniels Gate and the town of Parker is just in the middle ground.

It is fun to paint the scrub oak that hasn’t yet leafed out. I wish, however, that I had painted the core shadow of the evergreens darker along with the light side of the trees. I’ll have to adjust this in the studio.

8” x 8” oil on Belgian linen panel.
