Outdoor painting presents unique challenges and opportunities. Michael’s teaching philosophy addresses this by guiding you through the complexities of plein air painting with a structured, step-by-step approach.

A Word From Michael

“There's a particular kind of moment that stands out for me, one that's repeated yet always fresh—the 'light bulb' moment. It's that instant during the lesson when everything clicks into place for the student. When the details of the landscape they've been intently observing, struggling to capture, suddenly make sense and translate onto the canvas.

Seeing that spark of understanding and achievement is rewarding. It’s more than just the technical aspects of painting coming together; it’s the realization that they can indeed capture the essence of the natural world around them with a brush. These moments, where confidence blooms and skills are visibly sharpened, underscore the true value of these lessons. They're not just about learning to paint outdoors; they're about connecting deeply with the environment and expressing that connection creatively.”

    Well Worth the Investment

“Michael’s plein air lessons were well worth the investment. He helps set you up with a great foundation to start practicing painting outdoors on your own. Michael was very generous with his time, experience, and supplies and was an open book for all my oil painting questions. I didn’t feel rushed and was able to go through the lesson at my own pace. I am very glad I took Michael’s classes and would recommend him to anyone who is interested in learning more about plein air painting.”
